Will does not operate only at the individual level. When human beings come together — in relationships, teams, organizations, communities, civilizations — their orientations interact, amplify, and shape one another. Collective Will is the emergent pattern of these interactions.
A relationship has an orientation. A team has an orientation. A culture has an orientation. These collective orientations are not simply the sum of individual orientations — they are emergent properties with their own momentum, their own tendencies toward engagement or evasion.
Collective Will manifests in norms, institutions, policies, narratives, and shared practices. It discloses itself in what a group celebrates and what it avoids, what it rewards and what it punishes, what it makes space for and what it excludes.
The question for any collective — from a marriage to a civilization — is the same question that faces the individual: Is our orientation toward engagement or evasion? Are our institutions designed to cultivate genuine encounter with the Call, or to protect us from it?
