AWARENESS

Awareness

The capacity to encounter what is — and the recursive capacity to be aware of one's own awareness.

Awareness is what happens when embodied Will opens its eyes. It is the capacity to encounter what is — to perceive, to feel, to register the world. But awareness in the human sense is not merely receptive. It is recursive.

Human beings are not only aware — they are aware that they are aware. This recursion is the hinge on which the entire framework turns. An animal perceives its environment. A human being perceives its environment and perceives itself perceiving. This creates a gap — a space between stimulus and response, between world and self, between what is given and what is made of it.

This gap is the birthplace of freedom, meaning, and also anxiety. Because we can observe our own awareness, we can question it. We can ask: What am I not seeing? What am I avoiding? What does my awareness reveal about me?

Awareness of awareness is what makes the Paradox of Knowing possible. It is the structural precondition for the specifically human form of existence — one that is always already interpreting itself.
